Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, has pledged his support for the United Nations' Year of Biodiversity.
With just over 100 days until the New Year, Mr Williams is urging all nations to sign up to existing international commitments and take the necessary actions to promote protection of biodiversity.
Roger Williams said:
"I am pleased to be able to support the International Year of Biodiversity as this is an issue I have been interested in for many years
.
"Protecting biodiversity is essential for everything from food, fuel and health to wealth.
"In recent years I have been working with the Institute for Biological Environment and Rural Sciences (IBERS) to promote a bee breeding scheme as bees are just one example of the threats posed to biodiversity not just in the UK but globally.
"I will continue to promote the need to protect biodiversity and hope that this year will kick start a drive towards increasing biodiversity, encourage all nations to sign up to international biodiversity targets and raise awareness of this important issue amongst the public."
