Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, used today's Welsh Oral Questions to request that the Secretary of State for Wales use her influence to ensure that the Ministry of Justice does not enforce further cuts to Dyfed-Powys Police budget through reductions in overtime.
Roger Williams said:
"Many police forces are being required to reduce the overtime they allow their officers to undertake in order to work within reduced budgets.
"Dyfed Powys Police have already reduced their staff's overtime to a bare minimum and any further reduction would put a genuine strain on the force to carry it outs job effectively in such a large rural area.
"I requested that the Secretary of State raise this issue with the relevant Secretaries of State to ensure that the requirements being placed on policing budgets do not adversely affect their excellent work.
"I would like to commend Dyfed Powys Police for the work they do in ensuring some of the lowest crime rates in the UK and therefore allowing the public across Mid and West Wales to have continuing faith in their police force and their ability to keep them safe."
