Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, today called on the Prime Minister to ensure that
Roger Williams said:
"It widely acknowledged that a secure and sustainable food supply must be achieved here in the UK and elsewhere.
"With a growing population we need to produce more feed and food on less land in the UK and in markets around the world.
"To achieve this, our farmers need access to all the proven agricultural tools and innovations and I therefore called on the Prime Minister to confirm the Government will ensure that all policy decisions in the UK and in Brussels are based on sound science and proportionate regulation.
"The Prime Minister's response on food labelling was encouraging but I had hoped for a more concrete guarantee of ensuring that agricultural research funding is not adversely affected in the round of spending cuts.
"The previous government ignored the issue of food research, security and proper labelling for too long and it is reassuring to hear that this Government will not do the same."
