Commenting on the Budget Statement, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Wales Roger Williams said:
"People in Wales can't trust Labour to cut the deficit after the election, because they have failed to spell out the tough decisions that need to be made. Alistair Darling is fond of reading out the numbers he expects the deficit to fall to, but he won't tell us how he's going to do it.
"We have set out a costed package of measures that will shift the burden of tax away from those on low and middle incomes, and we have also set out £15bn worth of year-on-year savings, a third of which will go on alternate spending, and two thirds of which will go on reducing the deficit.
"This Budget is a symbol of how the Government has let us down, and how they are now attempting to hide the truth until after the election.
"Immediate cuts could cause serious problems for the economy, but that's no excuse for not setting out where the axe will eventually have to fall. Labour are asking voters to trust they will do the right thing at a time when trust in Labour politicians has never been lower.
"Labour have missed their last chance to be honest to the Welsh people about the decisions that need to be taken."
