Brecon & Radnorshire's Liberal Democrat MP, Roger Williams, has re-stated his firm opposition to the plans to develop 200 new houses on a site adjacent to the village of Glangrwyney, at the southern end of the Cwrt y Gollen Camp, near Crickhowell. The controversy has recently gathered momentum as a decision on whether to grant full consent for the application will be made at a meeting of the Brecon Beacons National Park Planning Committee in April.
Speaking about the proposal, Mr. Williams said:
" I have consistently made clear my opposition to this proposal, which basically involves putting almost all the residential development allocated in the current National Park Unitary Development Plan in just one place. So, apart from the fact that the new houses will be a long way from any public services and shops, granting planning permission for this development would effectively prevent residential development across the rest of the National Park. Communities that need more housing will be prevented from having it."
" It would be much better to spread new housing across the communities within the park, to meet demand within those communities, not concentrate it all in one village, effectively more than doubling the size of that village."
" I very much hope that the Planning Committee rejects the application next month."
