WILLIAMS WELCOMES ADOPTION OF PRIVATE SEWERS

November 26, 2009 11:03 AM

During a debate on the Queens Speech, Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, welcomed proposals in the Floods and Water Management Bill which put a duty on water companies, such as Welsh Water and Severn Trent to adopt for maintenance and renewal purposes, sewage systems which are at the moment the responsibility of private householders.

Speaking after the debate, Mr Williams said:

"Many constituents in villages such as Knighton, Brecon and Glasbury, have to bear the cost of maintaining their sewage connections to the mains.

"In case of damage or breakdowns, costs can be considerable and are an unfair burden on private householders.

"I welcome the proposals in the Bill and will take every opportunity to ensure that they become law."

NOTES:

It seems likely that Roger Williams will be part of the standing committee that will take the Bill through the parliamentary process.

If you are a resident of the Brecon and Radnorshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
