MP CONGRATULATES COUNCILLORS ON MERGER VOTE

September 24, 2009 9:34 AM

Lib. Dem. Group Leader Pledges Commitment to Working with WAG and the tLHB

Brecon & Radnorshire's Liberal Democrat MP, Roger Williams, has warmly welcomed the vote taken today by Powys County Council to proceed towards a full merger with the Powys Teaching Local Health Board (tLHB).

Commenting on the decision, Mr. Williams said:

" I congratulate the Councillors. This is a victory for common-sense and a move that I have in principle supported since the idea was first put forward. It is pleasing that the vote was overwhelmingly in favour and that groups, such as the Conservatives, who were previously opposed to the merger, have changed their stance, despite their party leader's opposition to the plan."

Powys County Council Welsh Lib. Dem. Group Leader, Cllr. Leslie Davies, expressed his satisfaction with the result:

" The proposals were prepared following a very robust process of analysis and consideration of all the options by a high-level group made up from all the agencies. I am delighted that the process has produced this result today. Now the more detailed work can begin. I and my group members will work constructively and positively with the tLHB, WAG officials and our MPs and AMs to ensure that the process is brought to a successful conclusion, to deliver a new body that will deliver the high quality services that the people of Powys want and deserve."

If you are a resident of the Brecon and Radnorshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
