Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire today pledged his support for the 10:10 Campaign which is promoting a 10% cut in the UK's carbon emissions.
10:10 is an ambitious project to unite every sector of British society behind one simple idea: that by working together we can achieve a 10% cut in the UK's carbon emissions in 2010.
Roger Williams MP said "Cutting 10% in one year is a bold target, but for most of us it's an achievable one, and is in line with what scientists say we need over the next 18 months. We now know for certain that unless we act quickly to reduce our use of dirty fossil fuels, humanity will face terrible problems in the years to come. It is an ambition that we can all work towards. At my home in Llanfilo, Brecon I have recently installed solar panels and I have increased insulation on my property. However you do not need to spend a great deal of money to cut your carbon emissions. Why not try switching off lights when you leave a room, switching off computer monitors and not leaving electrical items on standby, avoiding excess packaging or buying locally produced food? Every task we do to cut our emissions will all contribute to the 10% target."
Roger Williams continued "It's easy to feel powerless in the face of a huge problem like climate change, but by uniting everyone behind immediate, effective and achievable action, 10:10 enables all of us to make a meaningful difference".
