Following a successful visit to Mangar International, Presteigne, Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire and Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Wales, invited local companies to meet with Paul Murphy MP, Secretary of State for Wales, to highlight the problems facing small businesses in the East Radnor area.
Mr Williams said:
"It was a useful and successful meeting and Paul Murphy was pleased to meet with small and medium size businesses which, as he said, are the backbone of the Welsh economy.
"Many of the companies were facing difficult financial situations and highlighted a number of issues including lack of support from HMRC, energy companies requiring up front bonds, difficulty in obtaining credit insurance, business rates and downturn in the confidence of the consumer.
"Businesses linked to the automotive industry were most badly affected.
"Paul Murphy committed himself to raising these issues at Cabinet and at Economic Summits in Wales and England.
"I will be meeting with some of these companies individually to see if I can assist in getting better support from HMRC and various Assembly and Westminster initiatives."
