Roger Williams MP and Shirley Gittoes at the Parliamentary Launch of the 'Why17' campaign
Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire and Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Wales, met with Shirley Gittoes, Welsh Convener and Chair of the Powys branch of Sands (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society), yesterday to pledge his support to the 'Why17' campaign.
The campaign calls for research into the reason why 17 children are stillborn every day in the UK and the society, who will provide £3m of research funding, are asking for the Government to back the campaign with equal funding.
Mr Williams said:
"It is a tragedy that so many children are stillborn every day and the Government should provide all the necessary support to assist in researching the causes.
"I am pleased to be able to support such an important issue and will be writing to the Minister to back calls for matched funding."
