WILLIAMS WELCOMES RURAL POLICE GRANT RETENTION

March 2, 2009 10:12 AM

Roger Williams, Liberal Democrat MP for Brecon and Radnorshire and Liberal Democrat Food and Rural Affairs Spokesperson, has welcomed the news that the Rural Policing Grant will continue to be paid to rural police forces.

Mr Williams said:

"This will be very welcome news to people in rural areas and it is encouraging that the Home Office has recognised the importance of this funding.

"Rural police forces undertake very different tasks than those in urban areas and have to police far greater land areas.

"It is important that the necessary funding is provided to these areas in order that the public can feel safe in their local communities"

NOTES:

Roger Williams received confirmation of the continuation of this grant in a letter from Vernon Coaker MP, Minister of State at the Home Office, after raising the issue in a debate in Parliament on 4th February 2009. A copy of that letter is available on request.

If you are a resident of the Brecon and Radnorshire constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
