Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Wales Roger Williams MP has today criticised Government plans that would effectively slash police budgets in Wales.
Mr Williams made an intervention in yesterday's debate on the Policing and Crime Bill, warning of the effect that the Government's proposals would have on policing.
Dyfed-Powys have warned that they would lose £6 million from the loss of the funding floor and a further £2.6 million from the loss of the rural policing grant, and the total cost to the four Welsh forces of the two changes would be approximately £21 million.
Commenting, Roger Williams said:
"Dyfed-Powys has an excellent record, yet the Government seem to think they can carry on with one hand tied behind their back.
"We all understand that urban forces have significant pressure on their resources, but that doesn't mean that rural policing can be cast aside.
"A budget cut of this magnitude may well mean that sacrifices have to be made in frontline policing, which would be extremely worrying for our communities."
