Roger Williams, Liberal Democrat Food and Rural Affairs spokesperson, today supported Richard Bacon's 10 Minute Rule Bill on food labelling which calls for improved labelling of food products.
Speaking after the debate, Mr Williams said:
"I congratulate Mr Bacon on securing his 10 Minute Rule Bill and have agreed to be a co-sponsor.
"A large number of products available to British consumers are labelled as British due to them being packaged in the UK, not because they were grown, reared or produced in the UK.
"It is important that consumers are fully aware of where the products they are purchasing have come from.
"Not only will this improve the fortunes of British farming but will also be of assistance to the many people who are concerned about food miles, climate change and animal welfare standards in cases of meat labelling.
"I hope that the Government will give the aims of this bill serious consideration and put them on the statute book."
