SUPPORT OF MEPs ON EID WELCOME - WILLIAMS

Roger Williams MP, Liberal Democrat Food and Rural Affairs Spokesperson and Shadow Secretary of State for Wales, has welcomed the signing of the Written Declaration opposing the introduction of sheep EID by Graham Watson MEP, Leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) at the European Parliament.
Mr Williams said:
"This is an important issue which will affect many sheep farmers when it is introduced.
"I welcome Graham Watson signing the Written Declaration and I would urge as many MEPs as possible from across the political spectrum to sign the declaration at the earliest opportunity."
Mr Watson added:
"I share the concerns of my Westminster colleagues and their constituents due to both the practicability of this measure and the burden it places on sheep farmers.
"As ALDE Leader I usually follow the convention whereby leaders do not sign Written Declarations - similar to those in Westminster where Early Day Motions are concerned - but I made an exception in this instance and have signed the Written Declaration on EID system for sheep because I think it is such an important issue."
