Brecon and Radnorshire MP, Roger Williams has called for immediate financial assistance to secure the future of the Brecon Advice Centre.
Mr Williams said "The Brecon Advice Centre see some 40 - 50 people each week, often their clients are vulnerable and have no one else to turn to. They provide an excellent service and assist people with all manners of enquiries from assistance with benefits claims, debt and consumer advice to housing, legal and relationship advice. This advice and support is free, confidential and accessible to all people in Brecon and its neighbouring communities."
Mr Williams continued, "The recent closure of the Llandrindod Wells CAB office has resulted in the Brecon Advice Centre receiving many new clients, and ironically, although the Brecon Advice Centre receive no funding from Powys County Council, the Powys County Council social services actually refer clients to them".
"The situation that the Brecon Advice Centre finds itself in has been described as urgent. Without proper funding its Trustees fear that it will have to close".
"I am contacting the council and the Welsh Assembly to try and secure funding for this valuable service".
